We are just passing the halfway mark on our ESCMID Global 2024 proceedings. It isn’t over yet, though - with great sessions happening all day! We invite all ESCMID members to join the General Assembly of Members taking place this evening at 18:30 CEST in the Moche Room with refreshments to follow.

We have another 3 keynote sessions today for you, all taking place in Hall A.

We start with a lecture by Shiranee Sriskandan, “Emergence of group A streptococcal diseases: from Strep throat to invasive infections” from 11:00 - 12:00 CEST.

Then, Jeanne Marrazzo and Joshua Nosanchuk will sit down together and discuss “The syndemic of HIV and STIs”, from 13:30 - 14:30 CEST.

Finally, Nicola Segata will give his lecture “New frontiers in microbiome and human health” from 14:15 - 17:15 CEST.

As last year, we are no longer making ECCMID bags, but instead a general ESCMID Global bag that can be kept and customised! We have a Barcelona patch that you can attach to your ESCMID Global bag at our patch station between the Exhibition area and Hall 6. At end of the Exhibition area will also find the photobooth - jump into the role of a Sagrada Familia worker and help to finish the cathedral!

We have two of our famous “Year in…” sessions taking place today! You can review our “Year in Infectious Diseases” in Hall A from 09:30 - 10:30 CEST, and catch up on our “Year in Clinical Microbiology”, also in Hall A from 17:30 - 18:30 CEST.

The ENC/ASC is back again this year at ESCMID Global. We kept the highly successful video format from the previous years where our partners and affiliates share their missions and activities. In addition to this, we will have live presentations at the Fireplace, an open space situated in the ESCMID Village. You can see the full list of participating partners on our website. The educational session “Clinical practice guidelines on ID: present and future” will offer new insights on developing clinical guidelines for infectious diseases, from methodological and clinical perspectives, and bring the ESCMID guideline programme closer to the ESCMID Global audience. Join the session in Hall E from 13:30 - 15:30 CEST!

This symposium will feature just-released publications from different Lancet journals. Publications will be presented by their authors and will focus on emerging infections. Editors from The Lancet Microbe and The Lancet Infectious Diseases will moderate the session. Join us in Hall K from 16:15 - 18:15 CEST.
