ESCMID Global 2026: Help your abstract stand out
|
|
Scientific abstracts are an important part of the ESCMID Global programme. With well over 7,000 abstracts submitted annually, our congress features over 5,000 accepted abstracts (average acceptance rate ~70%), including over 1,000 oral presentations. Accepted abstracts are also published in an open-source abstract book, allowing communication to a broader audience.
We advise abstract submitters to adhere to the ESCMID Global instructions for submitters and pay close attention to the selection of topical categories.
The congress website contains useful information concerning abstract content, style, formatting and templates.
Take advantage of our writing style recommendations to submit an impactful abstract.
We asked some senior ESCMID members for their top advice - here’s a summary of what they recommend:
- Be concise: Use clear, direct language and avoid long sentences
- Use active voice: Say “the study tested” instead of “it was tested”
- Keep it clear: Make your abstract easy to understand for a broad audience
- Avoid jargon: Limit abbreviations and specialised terms
- Proofread: Check grammar and spelling; use UK English
- Get feedback: Ask a colleague to review for clarity
- Submit early: Give yourself time to refine your abstract
