Report of the Emerging Infections Subcommittee on the recent mpox outbreak in Africa

The ESCMID Emerging Infections Subcommittee has published their intensive commentary on the recent mpox outbreak providing evidence-based information for healthcare professionals, researchers, and public health officials.

 

As of August 2024, the mpox outbreak has primarily affected countries in Central and East Africa, particularly the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and neighbouring countries, with cases reported across several regions.

Four members of the current ESCMID SAS are completing their term at the end of ESCMID Global 2025. ESCMID is now searching for members to replace them in April. The open call covers the following topics: AMR & Susceptibility Testing, Clinics & Therapeutics, Pathogenesis and Immunology and finally, Diagnostics.
