Driving innovation in science
|
Study Groups continue to be the extensions of ESCMID within the various specialties of clinical microbiology and infectious diseases. We expect the number of SGs to rise this year along with the impact of their activities such as regular webinars. Joining is free for all ESCMID members and no application is needed!
Alongside this, ESCMID is dedicated to continuing to support young scientists. This past year we celebrated the first emerging young scientist award and hit a record-breaking number of research grants awarded. We look forward to continuing this trend in 2025.

Fighting for the future of global health
|
The ESCMID AMR Action Subcommittee has been working diligently on positioning themselves as a bridge between science and policy in the fight against AMR. In 2025 they will continue to push ahead by organising the GLG-ESCMID high level AMR event at ESCMID Global 2025 and much more to come!
In the constant fight against emerging and re-emerging infectious disease threats, ESCMID stands ready to act. Our Emerging Infections Subcommittee in 2025 will continue to publish commentaries and set up a global network of experts to be called upon and activated when local outbreaks emerge.

The new ESCMID Foundation for Education
|
We are thrilled to announce the launch of the ESCMID Foundation for Education, a new non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting education in the fields of clinical microbiology and infectious diseases. Its mission will be achieved through the organisation and funding of various educational activities worldwide, including specific educational programmes, financial support for specialised conferences and improving career development for persons working in the CM & ID fields.
The first activities will be launched in the second half of 2025, starting with a new AMS Certificate Programme taking place in Latin America.

ESCMID Global 2025 - always evolving
|
ESCMID Global meets in the heart of Vienna. We have an outstanding scientific programme in store and some new features for 2025:
- Programme tracks: To facilitate your personal learning journey at ESCMID Global, the programme has been allocated into multiple layers of tagging allowing for an increased level of personalisation and ease of use.
- Education Friday: ESCMID Global is extending the programme with a full day dedicated solely to education, with a suite of special sessions designed for small group work and enhancing practical knowledge.
- Pipeline Monday: The addition of a new drug R&D pipeline track will facilitate exchange between academia, healthcare, industry, and policymakers. It will feature a heavy focus on AMR but will extend to other aspects of CM & ID such as vaccines and diagnostics.

Save the dates for ESCMID Conferences
|
In addition to ESCMID Global, we will have two more ESCMID Conferences in 2025. The 6th Vaccines Conference aims to foster scientific exchange and offer exceptional networking opportunities for anyone interested in the latest advancements in the field of vaccines. IMMEM XIV features a programme offering extensive learning opportunities through lectures, panel discussions, plenary, debate and bioinformatics sessions.

New series for CMI & CMI Communications
|
Standing on the shoulders of giants: Heroes and heroic studies paving the way forward in CM and ID. In this open call, CMI is seeking to recognise and honour the legacy of the great and inspiring teachers through the discourse of a seminal study. The purpose of this specialty section is to remember studies that made a difference and had a profound impact on the fields of CM/ID.
|
|
Standing on the shoulders of imperfect humans: A call for articles. In contrast to the open call in CMI, this open call in CMI Communications wants to highlight, or rather call into question, seminal articles of their time that have been grandfathered into clinical standards and are still in practice today.

Exciting new features for Guidelines
|
ESCMID supports the creation and distribution of carefully crafted, evidence-based guidance documents aimed to strengthen best practices in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases.
From 2025, to keep up with the ever-increasing pace of evidence generation, we are starting new projects on:
- Living Guidelines, to allow the updates of individual recommendations as soon as new evidence is available.
- Rapid Guidelines, to provide important evidence-based guidance in times of urgency and emergency.
Keep an eye out for these new projects and how you can support our guidelines activities.
