Empowering women in science

ESCMID takes great pride in our efforts to support and encourage women working in CM/ID to develop their leadership skills. This course is designed specifically for women in healthcare and organised by the female board members of the ESCMID Foundation. Participants can expect to engage in hands-on sessions, strategic simulations, and co-creation exercises designed to build resilience, decision-making skills, and elevate their impact as scientific leaders.

 

There are five attendance grants available to ESCMID Young Scientist members to attend the course. Apply today and register for an immersive training experience tailored to the unique challenges and strengths of women in leadership.

ESCMID offers research grants for all levels

Applications for individual research grants for 2026 are still open under the theme for this year, bacterial infections and diseases. These grants are a fantastic opportunity for early-career researchers to secure their first grants and make their first steps into the academic field of research. The deadline to apply is 10 September 2025.

Starting tomorrow, applications for the Study Group Collaboration Grant open. This larger-scale grant is designed to support innovative translational research projects organised by an experienced PI with the support of at least three ESCMID Study Groups. Applications are open from 20 August until 29 October 2025.

Measles cases continue to rise across 10 countries, a 34-fold increase compared to 2024, mostly among the unvaccinated (71%). Canada, Mexico, and the USA are most affected. PAHO/WHO urges countries to strengthen vaccination campaigns, surveillance, and response capacity to prevent further spread. Chikungunya transmission is intensifying across continents. ECDC reports 59 new locally acquired cases in France and Italy. Brazil has seen almost 90k confirmed cases and several Indian Ocean countries are affected, prompting a CDC Level 2 travel notice. An outbreak of listeriosis in France and four other European countries has caused two deaths since June. Almost 13k confirmed Oropouche virus cases across 11 countries have been reported this year. Brazil remains the epicentre, followed by Panama and Peru. The cholera outbreak in Sudan continues to escalate with almost 100k suspected cases and ~2.5k deaths reported. This humanitarian crisis is aggravated by conflict, displacement, and limited access to healthcare.
