Epi Alert: 23 September 2025
|
Measles cases have surged in the Americas, with over 11,000 cases and 23 deaths, mainly among unvaccinated children; PAHO/WHO urges stronger vaccination efforts. Ireland reported its first local cluster of mpox clade I, while Japan detected its first imported mpox clade 1b case, both linked to travel and under close public health monitoring. In China’s Guangdong province, over 1,700 chikungunya cases have triggered a public health emergency, marking the country’s largest outbreak. Australia has seen syphilis and gonorrhea cases more than double in a decade, with rising congenital syphilis and ongoing calls for improved screening. In Germany, 45 EHEC O45:H2 cases — including severe illness in children — have been reported, with the outbreak source still unknown.
