Epi Alert: 17 March 2026

This week’s alert includes updates on global mpox (clade Ib) cases in 14 EU/EEA countries, North America and current outbreaks in Africa. The Americas are experiencing a significant increase in yellow fever transmission. Anguilla reports its first autochthonous human case of West Nile virus, a potential sentinel event for southward expansion. A resurgence of New World screwworm myiasis is spreading northward across the Americas, causing significant human and animal morbidity. Finally, Brazil reports an outbreak of leptospirosis cases alongside Sri Lanka, consistent with epidemiological link between heavy rainfall, flooding and increased transmission.
