Nigeria recorded over 510k tuberculosis cases in 2025, highlighting persistent global detection gaps alongside Morocco's high 53% rate of extrapulmonary presentations. In the Americas, chikungunya cases surged, with the ECDC reporting cases and deaths across 18 countries by late February 2026. Europe faced emerging viral threats, including a human Borna disease virus 1 infection in Germany, and Italy's first human case of avian influenza A(H9N2). Meanwhile, the United States reported widespread highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 outbreaks in animals and its first human fatality from A(H5N5) in Washington State. New Caledonia declared its first dengue epidemic since 2019, and Vietnam reported over 25k hand, foot, and mouth disease cases with four associated deaths.
