Science & Research

You can now watch the keynote lecture from the AMR Science-Policy Forum 2026 on our website alongside a summary of the session thanks to John Rex (AMR.Solutions). The forum was very well attended, and we look forward to continuing this important meeting and bringing support to the fight against AMR.

The European Centre for Disease Control (ECDC) welcomes 20 observers for a 5-day programme at the ECDC headquarters in Solna, Sweden. The call for applications opened on 21 April and will end on 19 May, so be sure to review the process and submit your application today!

We are pleased to announce that the 3rd UEMS European Examination in Medical Microbiology is scheduled for 28 November 2026. This joint exam between UEMS and ESCMID aligns with the UEMS Core Training Programme for Medical Microbiology, European best practice guidelines, and key recent publications from leading scientific journals.

You can get CME credits for also watching the replays of sessions so be sure to catch-up on the sessions you missed – and submit your survey only after you are ready since you will not be able to submit more than once.

The podcast is launching a new series on everything related to pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD). This first episode encompasses a broad scope across PK/PD theory, preparing the listener for subsequent episodes that will explore these topics with greater depth and make you love PK/PD.

Chikungunya transmission is active across the Americas and the Indian Ocean, with Brazil reporting over 11k cases, Mauritius reaching 1.6k cumulative cases, Argentina recording 800 cases, and 31 travel-associated cases in Florida linked to Cuba. Malaria burden remains high in sub-Saharan Africa, with Zimbabwe reporting 5.9k cases and 24 deaths since January, and Uganda recording over one million cases between July 2025 and March 2026. Diphtheria is resurgent in Nigeria and Australia, both reflecting declining immunisation coverage. Thailand reports melioidosis cases and 23 deaths in early 2026 following a severe rainy season. South Korea has confirmed its first SFTS case of 2026; clinicians should screen for agricultural or outdoor exposure in febrile patients through November.
