EUCIC and ESCMID released a joint statement on the use of alcohol-based handrubs as a cornerstone of hand hygiene and infection prevention and control. A suspected Hantavirus outbreak aboard the MV Hondius cruise ship has caused three deaths and one ICU admission. Argentina has recorded 8k chikungunya cases, with one death and a severe encephalitis case; the Northwest Region carries the highest burden. French Guiana has reported 143 cases since January 2026. Global mpox cases continue to decline, with 1.1k confirmed in February 2026 across 46 countries; cumulative totals since 2022 reach 179k. El Salvador reported 60 typhoid fever cases since January. In Baja California, Mexico, 15 rickettsia cases and 6 deaths have been recorded.
