The call for individual research grants for 2027 opens tomorrow. These grants help support young researchers boost the start of their academic career. New this year are grants to support women in science which do not require the applicant to be an ESCMID member. The Vaccines Subcommittee is also sponsoring two grants focusing on vaccinology as part of this call. Learn more and start preparing your applications.

An expanding outbreak of Ebola disease caused by Bundibugyo virus has reached 896 confirmed cases and 232 deaths, with linked cases in Uganda. Colombia is managing a sylvatic yellow fever outbreak with 200 confirmed cases, while Haiti reports 159 confirmed and 1,616 suspected diphtheria cases amid declining vaccination coverage. The United States reported on a seasonal influenza A outbreak at a Texas military base. In Asia, Pakistan has documented over 20k measles cases, other measles outbreaks have been reported in Syria, Peru and Guatemala. Elsewhere, Yemen has reported 4,819 dengue cases, and Canada continues to track a sustained hepatitis A outbreak that has caused 784 cases and four deaths since 2024.
