The 24th edition of the ESCMID Summer School took place last week in Budapest, Hungary. We welcomed 92 participants from 29 countries to learn, network and get hands-on experience in leading medical research and public health institutions.
A big thank you to all our faculty, partners and participants for making this summer school so successful. We look forward to seeing you next year for ESCMID Summer School 2027 in Zagreb, Croatia!

A major Bundibugyo virus outbreak continues in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, while France reported an exported case in a healthcare worker. In western Uganda, at least two confirmed cases of Marburg virus disease have been reported. Cholera transmission persists in Africa, including an epidemic in the DRC’s Kwango Province and sustained activity in Zimbabwe. Mpox activity remains widespread across 24 African countries. Dengue cases are surging in Asia and Africa, notably in Sri Lanka and Kenya. Elsewhere, Western Australia reported 170 diphtheria cases, predominantly among Aboriginal populations, and Yemen recorded over 400 human rabies cases amid severe vaccine shortages.
