The current research grant application call focuses on viral/fungal/parasitic infections and also includes additional support from the Vaccines Subcommittee for projects exploring vaccinology. The ESCMID Emerging Infections Subcommittee published a new narrative review to examine how transmission pathways influence clinical presentation, epidemiological behaviour, outbreak dynamics, and preparedness in emerging human infections, and to propose an operational framework supporting early risk assessment and public health response.

The DRC's Bundibugyo virus outbreak reached 2,905 confirmed cases and 1,269 deaths by 22 July 2026; Uganda's 42-day countdown is underway after 20 cases and two deaths. Exported cases include two US workers (to Germany and Czechia), a French doctor, and an asymptomatic UK resident in London. In Canada, Ontario and Nova Scotia report rising anaplasmosis cases amid tick expansion. France recorded its first two autochthonous dengue cases of 2026. Chikungunya is expanding in Costa Rica (CDC Level 2 notice), French Guiana (1,157 cases), and Philippines (329 cases). Sweden reports a 54% rise in tick-borne encephalitis (213 cases), linked to climate change.
